Library Media Center
Welcome to the Lake View Elementary Library!
The Lake View Elementary Library Media Center supports the Alabama State Course of Study, the basis of our school curriculum program, and Information Power published by the American Association of School Librarians and the American Library Association. In addition, the Library Media Center endorses the literacy principles of the 2008 Standards of the 21st Century Learner of the American Association of School Librarians.
Our Mission
"Our library is committed to providing quality print and electronic resources-while fostering information literacy skills through effective research and retrieval as well as developing a lifelong love of reading."
About Our Library
The Lake View Elementary Library Media Center provides open access for all students. The Library Media Center uses Destiny, a Follett software product as its automated management system. Destiny provides TitlePeekTM, which gives students a chance to preview books on-line; and One SearchTM, which lets students get information from the school library and the Internet as a whole with a single search, and WebPath ExpressTM, which limits student searches to approved, grade-appropriate web sites. Finally, teachers are able to align lesson plans using Destiny since the Alabama State Course of Study Standards are included in the web based program.
Each classroom will visit the library media center once a week. Students can check in and check out books during their assigned class time. Research time is arranged for all students. Since collaborative planning between the classroom teacher and the Library Media Specialist is imperative to the learning process for all students, the Library Media Center is an extension of the classroom. Through collaborative planning, students have the chance to experience knowledge through varied learning opportunities from small group literature circles to presentation productions. Students and teachers have access to the Alabama Virtual Library for projects and research.
Students may check out library books for two weeks at a time. However, if you need to keep the book longer, you may renew it.
Lost and damaged books will have charge of $20.00 ($7.50 for paperbacks).
